As a leader you have a responsibility to be self-reflective and self-aware.  Unless you know who you are and where you’re going, the demands of your daily life will control you.

If you want to take more control of your life, you must voice your values.

If you want to do more of what is really meaningful to you, voice your values.

If you want to define what your purpose is, voice your values.

Deep within each of us is a bedrock of values that we stand for. The voice of your values gives the echoes to your thoughts.

Your values as a leader set the boundaries for the decisions you will make every day.

Your values will serve as a guide for your actions.

Your values will provide a moral compass for the journey you are embarking on.

Your values are empowering and encouraging.

Your values are motivating and meaningful.

When you can truly identify your values, you can find fulfillment - Not just fulfillment for the moment, but a transformation and a transcendence that lasts a lifetime.

Lead From Within: We all can find the greater meaning to our existence and the fulfillment we hunger for, but it starts by giving voice to your values.  It is living in the consistency of the echos of this voice that will bring you happiness.

Got Legacy?

Everyone leaves a legacy.

The only question is what kind of legacy are you leaving?

Your legacy is created with every action you take, with every achievement you make and with every victory you create.

Everyday you are leaving your mark, your legacy consists of your failures and your recoveries.

Your legacy matters not just to you, but also to all those who follow you, care for you and emulate you.

Your legacy matters to all who seek to be loved by you and who you seek to love. Your teaching, your philosophy, you wisdom, your knowledge will leave a wake long after you are gone.

Your legacy makes a difference.

Be one of those people who work hard, play hard and live hard.

Leave a legacy.

NO...

Leave a great legacy.

Be a person who cares with compassion!

Be a person who is kind and  lives from their heart!

Be a person who loves deeply and passionately!

Be a person who shows up and  stands for something!

Be a person who consistently performs in excellence!

Be a person who gives more than they take!

Be a person who is great!

Lead from within: You don't develop a great legacy in a day. You create a legacy day by day, moment by moment, second by second, What will your day be like today?

This post is in honor of Steve Jobs. A great man who was a great leader, who led from within, who created a great company, who leaves us with a great legacy.

Untapped Leadership Potential

All people have untapped and untouched leadership potential.  Just as all people have untapped athletic and artistic potential.

It is a given that there are clear differences due to nature and nurture and not everyone can be the CEO of a multi billion dollar corporation just as not everyone can be an Olympian or tennis winner of Wimbledon but with coaching and practice we can all be a lot better than we are.

It is never to early...It is never to late....for untapped leadership potential.

  • Invest in yourself
  • Take time to think
  • Learn to listen lovingly
  • Prepare to pursue your passion and purpose
As you tap into your potential and invest in yourself. You will find that who you are inside affects everything you do.

Leadership starts from within, as you learn, love and live for yourself you will be better able to love, learn and live with others.

Take on the challenge of improving your leadership abilities and developing yourself.

Do not be the one who is Untapped in their potential.

Lead From Within: This journey of life begins with you. Leadership is an affair of the heart. Tap into your heart's desire and untap into your full potential

Be The Real Deal

Life and leadership demands you be your authentic self. Try to LEAD like someone else. Try to BE like someone else and you will fail. You would just be a bad imitation of who you are imitating. People do not follow or engage with people who are not real.

What does it take to be real, genuine and authentic? It takes sincerity, honesty, integrity, consistency and character.

Why is authenticity so misunderstood? Many believe that authenticity is an intrinsic and instinctive quality. In fact authenticity is a quality that others must attribute and ascribe to you.

No person, can look in the mirror and say to themselves; I am authentic!

A person cannot be authentic on their own. Authenticity is largely defined by what other people see and say about you.

So how can you embody being an authentic?
  • make sure your words are consistent with your deeds
  • embody your values and beliefs
  • practice what you preach
  • Be YOU.
  • The real YOU.
  • The Real DEAL.

Lead From Within: If you are a leader who is playing a role and pretending to be a leader -your followers, the people around you. will feel- see- hear- know the deception.

Whereever You Go, Go With All Your Heart.

The total development of who you are and what you want and how you feel..... is essential to achieving your goals both in your personal and professional life. Once there used to be high morals and ethics in the workplace and the expectations of your personal life were private and non-inclusive.

The truth is there is should be no difference between our inner personal work and those of our professional success - - our whole self is what we should bring to work and what we should bring home- if you want to be successful in the long run the best practice is the simplest truth: wherever you go, go with all your heart.

If you bring your whole self to work and you lead from your heart you will be more likely to be the person who cares more, shares more, understands more, says more,  feels more, hears more and is liked more.

Bringing your whole heart and continuously developing your personal mastery is just as important as leadership growth and leadership growth is just as important as organizational growth- all of it matters--all of it is interrelated.

Sheryl Sandberg the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook says. "I believe in bringing your whole self to work. We are who we are. When you try to have this division between your personal self and professional self, what you really are is stiff... That doesn't mean people have to tell me everything about their personal lives. But I'm pretty sharing of mine." (New Yorker July 11 2011)

The person who leads from the heart, and who brings their whole self to work,  is more likely to feel more comfortable with responsibilities, is more likely be more authentic and transparent.

Lead From Within: Are you bringing your whole heart and self to your professional and personal life?  Are you standing with unconditional commitment and unequivocal courage to your truest self?

To lead from within is know the simplest most profound truth: If you bring your heart, you bring your best self.

Lead Yourself

Before you can lead others, You must be able to lead yourself.

If you cannot lead yourself others won’t follow you. If you cannot lead yourself others won’t respect you. If you cannot lead yourself others won’t listen to you. If you cannot lead yourself others won’t trust you. If you cannot lead yourself others won't understand you.

If you cannot lead yourself how will you make a difference?

Leadership is demanding it is created from noble disciplines. It requires an elevated sense of mastery with practice, skills, desires and commitment. It begins with leading ourselves to understanding, acknowledging, and attending to our insides. It is the fundamental and necessary building block to greatness.

Set your standards high.

Do the best you are capable of doing.

Do everything to bring forth your personal best.

To lead yourself successfully is a self knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable of.

The better you are at leading yourself the better the chance you are at having a positive impact on others.

Lead From Within:  The truth is we need each other.....to learn from each other.....to lead ourselves and to lead by example, because we are joined by a common cause....to lead from within .... so we can increase the quality and quantity of heart based leaders around the world.

Just Do It

Throughout the centuries there were men who took first steps, down new roads, armed with nothing but their own vision. Ayn Rand

In 1964 a little athletic shoe company was started by a man named Phil Knight. He named his company "Nike" for the Greek Goddess of victory.

Knight chose this name not so much to make a statement of his aspirations but for the purpose of the company. Knight declared Nike would be dedicated to helping athletes excel and win.

If this meant pouring resources into the best design department in the industry.... he was going to just do it. If it meant that Nike would pay Michael Jordan and other talented athletics millions of dollars to serve as product testers.... He was going to just do it.

Nike's vision was to make its customers winners or at least make them feel like they were winners.

For over thirty years every decision, every action, every choice, every idea Nike has is based on Knight's defined vision.

Today Nike has become a premiere athletic shoe and sportswear company in the world.

To have a vision is the art of seeing into the future.

It lets you know where to stand and what to stand for- because unless you stand for something you shall fall for anything.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself when creating your companies vision:
  • What kind of company do we want to create?
  • What contribution would we make?
  • How would our services, products bring value to others?
  • How would our people work together?
  • What values would we embody?

When a company has a clear vision for the business, they are creating a picture of the future. They can then work backwards, identifying priorities and what needs to be done to actualize the end result.

A company that is emotionally moved by their vision has the strength to overcome the rough spots and the ups and downs. A thoughtful and authentic vision comes from your heart and touches the soul.

Lead From Within: Visions are not only for companies but also for individuals who are wanting to make a difference  and bring value into the world.  How can you- as a heart based leader- create a vision, articulate it passionately, own it relentlessly and be driven to just do it.

Networking #leadfromwithin Style

Guest Post written by: Dorothy Dalton Gender and Networking At 1.25 a.m. CET, on Tuesday 28th June,

I sat flexing my fingers at my keyboard, power napped and double espresso at my side, waiting with eager anticipation for my debut tweet chat with the #leadfromwithin community. Hosted by the ever generous Lolly Daskal it was a topic dear to my heart, Networking and Gender.

Northern Europe had just been struck by storms of biblical proportions. The first calamity was my TV was knocked out of action. For anyone who knows me, this is the second week of Wimbledon, the night before the men’ quarter finals! The second was about to come. My internet connection slowed down to the pace of a drugged snail. The Skype signal disappeared and with it Lolly and after 1 introductory tweet the #leadfromwithin stream drifted into cyber space.

I tried everything I could think of and finally, after 30 minutes, regained some sort of contact. Instead of there being hundreds of tweets whizzing through the stream, a few plopped gently into my line of vision. The tweets I could engage with showed me what I was missing! It was too bad! I was gutted!

This was the new networking at work and I was missing out. Building relationships with total strangers from all over the globe, reaching out and simply getting to know people better. Making connections.

I saw phrases that totally tapped into my own philosophy: be a source, not a resource, be open, give before receiving, behave with integrity, create a dialogue, listen attentively, don’t be afraid of failure and show a generosity of spirit. All of these are key to successful networking. It was great to see to my own thoughts coinciding with the #leadfromwithin values.

But what of the gender difference? Women are generally great relationship builders and tend to be social animals. Research shows, that although both men and women prefer to network with people they already know, men show a stronger willingness to network professionally.

Ladies, this is a lesson we can learn from our male colleagues and connections. We should not be afraid to make the “ask” that scares us!

The #leadfromwithin community is a wonderful place to hone these skills. It is warm, welcoming and inclusive. Lolly is leading by example to create an open community in which we can all get to know each other, regardless of background, profession, and geographic location.

Who knows what will come of these connections?

So what are you waiting for?

Spread the #leadfromwithin word!

What does Empathy mean?

Empathy is being present in the moment. It is feeling that is happening without involving the past or the future. Empathy is a mirroring an experience of another's emotions, whether it be happy or sad joy or sorrow. It is an energy of the moment- one person with another. It is a conversation with your eyes, your heart and your soul. Words are not empathy. Empathy is a state of being; you know it as a feeling of being connected one person to another.

Intuitive Leadership

Posted on 12. Jun, 2011 by .

Everybody knows it. Few understand it. Many people want it. Few trust it. What many of us do not know is that we have been following our intuition since we were born. Intuition means "quick ready insight." It comes from the latin word "intueri" which means "to see within." It is a way of sensing and knowing the truth without explanations. But when it comes to intuition many of us disconnect, ignore, betray or invalidate it. As a leader there is no sitting back and letting things happen to you.

NOT NOW.

Purpose suggests participation and intuition urges involvement.

Your intuition is your gift. Do not waste it. Unwrap it and use it.

We are all looking for answers and intuition is the highest form of knowing. Use your intuition to make better decisions and more valuable choices.

By trusting yourself you are giving permission for you intuition to guide, inspire and lead.

Your intuition is the guiding voice within, trust it, learn from it and grow with it. Lead From Within: Let go of saying you don't know and move inward to the knowing.
